There are many reasons to be inspired by the Nordic countries. In terms of product design, how to be more happy at home and how to make the most of anything… anything like daylight!
VELUX is a brand I have known for some time as it is a famous brand in France where I grew up, and here in the UK I see their roof window on converted Victorian houses quite often. Their products are synonymous to long-lasting quality, simplicity, flexibility. Therefore, I was pleased to be invited to an event panel to hear about their new product: Vario by VELUX rooflight. Focused on creating more indoor daylight, this product offers a bespoke size and a design that fits in any style of interior.
A Panel About The Importance of Daylight in the Home
The event called “The Light Emporium” took place at Camden House, London on 12th of June 2019.
We were presented with a stunning table with a Vario by VELUX rooflight above it in a concept set-up. This allowed us to actually see the product. After that, we were served an healthy breakfast. Velux Business Manager Frederik Gierding and interior influencer Lisa Dawson discussed about the positive role of natural light in the home. It was a positive, uplifting event and I left with a good opinion of the brand.
An Ode to Spring for sure.
Lisa Dawson, interior design influencer, commented: “As we are spending more time indoors than ever before, it is important that our homes are designed to promote health, happiness, productivity and wellbeing. I have been passionate about incorporating daylight and fresh air into the interior design process and the launch of Vario opens a whole new dimension to how we can design our spaces. In 2019 I believe the biggest design trend won’t be colour or a piece of furniture, but rather the use of daylight and fresh air to elevate a space”.
VELUX Bespoke Solution to more light in the home
VELUX have come up with a bespoke product to introduce more daylight into your Home by utilising roof-light. This is the first ever made-to-order product by VELUX. Usually VELUX is used to products with very quick turn-around. Whereas this product has been announced with a 6 weeks lead-time, it sounds like it can really transform your extension and is perhaps worth the wait.
Vario by VELUX Rooflights can be as big as 4 meter length and created in different shape: Rectangular, Square, Round, there is even a Walk-On one unleashing your designer creativity and giving you plenty of possibilities of light.

A few inspiration on how to use Vario by VELUX rooflight in the home
Personally, I am not currently planning a home extension (nonetheless the loft is a good candidate for it!) but if you are considering improving, have you thought about roof-light like these for your project? What do you think about the amount of daylight getting into your home currently? Do you think you could benefit from more ?

I really wanted to attend this event but was already away on a press trip. The new roof lights look great and I love that they are custom made to whatever size you need.
The idea of the skylight window over a kitchen or a dining area has been around for some time. However, I really love the idea of the skylight over a shower - what a great way to wake up with the sun streaming in!
Very true, I have got a window in my shower and I really love the sunlight it gets! I think what they offer different from standard rooflights, is that the rooflights are bespoke to any size and different shapes to suit different project so it can look more unique.
I am SUCH a huge fan of panels and I think they are so critical especially in England to help allow natural light flow through! So many period homes were not designed with this in mind and I think we should be promoting the importance of natural light!
I totally agree! There is a huge acope for these type to be added to period homes. We really suffer from poor natural light in most of UK homes.
Lighting makes such a difference in the home. I added a roof light to our architects drafts for my hallway and I’m so glad I did as the light now floods in where it used to be so dark.
