Painting my wall with Graphene Paint - A Review of Graphenstone Ecological paints

Today’s blog post is a review of Graphenstone ecological paint.

I recently got the opportunity to review GrafClean Premium, an Ecological paint with graphene from Graphenstone.

Disclaimer: This a collaboration post with Graphenstone but editorial and content is all mine. Even if I cannot develop on scientific aspects of Graphene paint, I will focus on my personal experience. By now, I have repainted almost all the walls of the house and used several brands allowing me to fairly be able to compare it.

After painting our brick wall in the kitchen, I have been wanting to repaint the grey wall so the colour would be a better match to the rest of the walls in the room. I felt the grey created a visual imbalance. Therefore when Graphenstone got in touch with me, and upon reading their credentials, I immediately thought about this wall to try the ecological paint. This is a room I use every day.

WHAT IS GRAPHENE PAINT ?

In a nutchell. Graphene is this incredible carbon derivated nano-technology material set to revolutionize many aspects of our everyday lives. By adding Graphene fibres to the paint, it is expected that some of the graphene benefits will be transferred to the paint and… therefore your walls and home! For example, the manufacturer says it can improve the room thermal conductivity thanks to the flexibility inherent to graphene fibres added to the paint. For this reason, this means potentially that your walls will retain heat better and therefore will save you money on heating.

The manufacturer says it improves the paint coverage: Same amount of paint goes a bit further than paints without graphene. I have noticed personally noticed indeed that I used only half of the 0.75L pot to paint this wall so I am likely to use it again in the kitchen on another wall. Now as said in the disclaimer, I am not a scientist and I do not have the means to perform a side by side analysis of such claims so what I do as a homeowner is I look at the quality labels and certification displayed by the manufacturer.

Graphenstone Certifications (read more) are impressive:
How did the paint perform:
  • LOW SMELL
  • EASY TO CLEAN
  • GOOD COVERAGE
  • MATT FINISH
Low Smell

The low-level of smell was the first thing that I noticed and was surprised by. During mixing, applying and drying, there is virtually no unpleasant smell to the paint. This is something quite important to me as after painting a lot in the house, I now know which brands have a nasty smell that stays on your nostrils for days. This one was absolutely brilliant. I am guessing this is the result of the paint components coming from natural materials as opposed to synthetic plasticisers or solvent toxic substances.

Recommended drying time is 2-4h between coats. I did 2 coats
Easy to Clean

How easy it was to clean the brushes after the job was done was a clear benefit too. This is one of my pet peeve of any paint job, the annoying yet essential step of cleaning your tools! The paint just seem to flow out of the brush with a little bit of water. I am pretty sure this paint cut my typical cleaning time in half!

Dried in 24 hours!
The Matt Finish and Subtle White Colour

To conclude this review; let’s talk about: the finish and colour. I am a lover of a good matt finish on the wall, I find it very classic and elegant and reminds me of the matt finish you see on plaster and mouldings. The matt finish of this paint is something else. There is zero reflection which means there is no sheen to it, it is dead flat and smooth and I love it.

In terms of colour, I chose the Alabaster colour and the label on the pot definitely says alabaster, and for this reason I was expecting something more creamy beige. Nonetheless, the result turned out a bit colder than that and more towards a translucent white grey hue. In a nutshell, like for any paint brand, I would advise to always get a paint sample as a paint colour may look different once painted and dried on the walls. I do still like the colour by the way!
