Having an office room with a door is a dream come true after all those times working from the dining table or from the sofa with a hot computer on my lap. What a difference a dedicated space makes to the experience of working from home!

Part of the brief was creating a dedicated home office area able to sustain my freelance activity of creating 3D Home Design plans. This typically requires a powerful computer to create precise 3D renderings and is more comfortable with a large screen (hence my enormous 43inch screen which admits is maybe over the top… but it does the job nicely and I love it).
It is exciting to be able to share the inspiration and pictures behind the new office space we have completed over the bank holiday.

We re-used some of the IKEA furniture we had from our previous flat: the Hilver office desk, a Patrik office chair, and Nordli drawers (see below).

This room has a dual purpose as there is also a single bed for the occasional guest to stay over. This part is still not final as I am planning on changing the current sofa bed for a day bed but the office space is ready and very comfortable.

I have included some natural materials and plants to give it a cool and calm vibe.

The cats love to sleep in this room where the light shines in from the window

Products used are below with links (the ones with asterisks are affiliates):
– Acer ET430T – UHD 4K – 43inch monitor
– Algot shelves system (select 4x 56cm rails and 18cm deep shelves)
– Hanging terrariums were self-made but I found the hanging vases at my local Tiger-Copenhagen shop.
– The compact camera above is Ricoh GRII camera. I have been using it for last few weeks and it takes great and sharp pictures (AD: product was given for a trial period by the brand, but this is my honest opinion).

three things I particularly love – the string shelves (always wanted some), the hanging terrarium and the awesome behind the door storage pegboard. Fab makeover
Thank you!! I agree 100%. Those shelves are even better in reality. Nothing like I’ve seen before. Good design make a huge difference.
What a lovely space. I wish I had somewhere like this to work. Love all the small details. I went to IKEA to buy that peg board last week but forgot to pick it up. Now I’m kicking myself as it looks so great. I suppose another trip isn’t a bad thing lol.
The space look fab! I badly need to sort myself a dedicated work space. Love the details and finishing touches. There is nothing better than a nicely designed office
Some really nice touches. Love the terrarium and string shelves. Lovely inspiration for when I finally have an office! X
It looks fab.I have one of those peg boards in my home office, and also one in the kitchen – they are so useful aren’t they? The only problem is I can’t stop rearranging them, he he. Love that you have one on the back of the door too, great idea x
Great makeover and love the String shelves in the new colour way.
A great transformation and a really practical room. The pegboards and the string shelves are really stylish additions.
What a fab makeover! Love all the greenery!
Great update Marlene. It made me realise I need more greens around my own home and love the String solution. Quick question – how do you work with such a large screen? Do you use any special filter on top as it seems to be quite close to you. Interested to know as
Hello, thank you so much ! Regarding the size of the screen, it is sooo great. I can have several windows open and see all of them with precision ( so far i’ve had max three open at a time). It is easier I think to look and modify HD content with it. No I don’t have filters, I set-up my office chair higher than a regular size screen so that when I look at the screen my eyesight level match the middle or 2 thirds up the screen, therefore my eyes/neck moves left and right only. Overall I’d say there is a bit more neck movement but nothing I found too uncomfortable. I wanted to wall-mount the screen which will push it back a little bit but so far because the quality is very high ( it is a 4K screen), I’ve had no problem in being a little close. Perhaps one idea would be for you to have a look at 4K screen in the shops, it will give you an idea of how your eyes react so close (65cm way). X
